I have this vision of true love as a love that pierces right through a person. It sends out a wave from deep within and goes right to and then through the other person. It eminates from one soul and goes through the other person's personality, their layers right to their soul.
It isn't a possesion, like it doesn't belong to one person. It starts in the "soul" realm, or another place entirely and moves through me toward certain people, places, concepts, etc.. It isn't mine to keep. I let it move through me, express through me. And in that way it is me.

It also is dangerous and radical because it doesn't even know about personality and this-worldly things. It isn't marriage. It will bring up all that is not love around it. It is more than this life, it transcends death and time and space. And it is the most powerful force on this earth. It powers evolution. It is what everything is ultimately made of. It is all there is.

I then attended the Warrior Sage "Sex, Passion, and Enlightenment" workshop in LA last July and that was life changing to say the least! Theie workshops are based on David Deida's teachings.

Anyhow, I was wanting to connect with some like minded people on a similar path here in Portland, OR...not just for e-mailing, but to meet up in person for socializing, organizing and promoting sacred sexuality events/workshops/lectures, etc.

Interested?
By the way, Happy new year 2008!
Give Everything Now

You are either withholding your love in fear or giving your deepest gifts. When it’s time to use the toilet, really time, all importance is reduced to the event.

Right now, and in every now-moment, you are either closing or opening. You are either stressfully waiting for something—more money, security, affection—or you are living from your deep heart, opening as the entire moment, and giving what you most deeply desire to give, without waiting.

If you are waiting for anything in order to live and love without holding back, then you suffer. Every moment is the most important moment of your life. No future time is better than now to let down your guard and love.

Everything you do right now ripples outward and affects everyone. Your posture can shine your heart or transmit anxiety. Your breath can radiate love or muddy the room in depression. Your glance can awaken joy. Your words can inspire freedom. Your every act can open hearts and minds.

Opening from heart to all, you live as a gift to all. In every moment, you are either opening or closing. Right now, you are choosing to open and give fully or you are waiting. How does your choice feel?

1. There are essentially different gender types, which may be in opposite bodies
2. A juicy relationship will involve two different types which play off one another
How is Deida not just the same patriarchal crap done over in gender-trendy pastels?

You Attract Your Reciprocal

When I feel the openness of your heart, I can feel how closed I have been to love. The softness of your body invites me to relax open and feel you. And when I feel you, the depth of your yearning calls the depth of my desire for you. I want to enter you as deeply and passionately as I feel your heart yearning to be entered, and I want to open you even more deeply with my love.

But when your yearning heart is hidden behind the tense cover of your body, then it is easy for me to continue on my way, doing my duties, accomplishing my tasks, or resting alone, without you. I can’t fully see your heart’s light through the hardness of your demeanor. I can’t really feel your heart’s longing for love, only your desire to get something done. I assume you want to be left alone to do what you need to do. So, I don’t touch your hurried body or infiltrate your shell of doing with my love.

I have learned that sometimes, even though you don’t show it, your heart actually does want to be touched by my love beneath your headlong actions. So, I have learned to take a moment and slow down with you when the time feels right, pressing my love into you, until you soften and open your heart, before continuing with your day. And you have learned to do the same for me, dear lover.

But I wonder if you are aware of how significantly your current disposition affects my heart’s desire to enter you and my body’s desire to touch you in love. Your yearning heart opens a love-depth in my otherwise surface day and calls me to feel into your deep longing, inviting my desire to open with you as love’s surrender.

But if I am only able to feel your tense body, then your company feels more like stress that I have to deal with. Although I am committed to opening you as deeply as I can with my love even when you are closed, the depth of my passionate desire for you is invited by the fullness of your yearning, which you show, moment by moment, through the trusting surrender of your body’s openness to love.

If you don’t have a man in your life who claims your heart with his love and opens you to God, you are probably not fully offering your heart to be claimed while opening your body to flow with love’s bliss—right now. You always attract and inspire a man as deeply committed to opening in love as you are—right now—which means that a man will be as actively present with you as you are actively radiating your love and allowing your yearning to open in his company and when you are alone.

Right now, how fully is your heart yearning open? How deeply do you want your heart’s longing to be met? How actively are you allowing love’s yearning to open through your feet, your thighs, your neck? Is your heart and belly as open now as if you were making love with a trusted lover while breathing the hearts of all beings? Probably not. Most likely, your heart is less than devotionally surrendered and your body is less than overflowing with love’s yearning pleasure. Therefore, you will attract a man who is less present than your heart truly desires.

Deep in your heart, you probably want to be with a man who could be totally present with you when you are together, as if he were making love with you, even at the dinner table or while taking a walk. To attract such a man, to evoke his fullness, you must be offering yours. His presence and the offering of your heart’s yearning go together; he drifts when you close down, you close down when he drifts. He wants to claim you when you trust him with your worship of his consciousness. And you open, offering your yearning and surrender to him, when you feel his deep claim and worship of your heart.

If you are not currently in relationship with such a man, feel yourself: Right now, are you opening and breathing the love that flows at the heart of all beings, feeling their suffering and their joy? Are you actively opening, breathing, and receiving this moment’s force of love into your body and heart—as if you were taking your lover deep inside, offering him your most vulnerable yearning of feminine devotion and the untamed gifts of your energy?

If you are offering your heart’s deepest yearning, then you will attract and inspire a man’s deepest presence, right now. If your heart’s surrender is cautious and your body’s flow of energy is minimal, then you will, in this moment, attract and inspire a man whose presence is easily distracted and whose heart is uncalled to feel you deeply.

How do you open now? Start by breathing deeply, filling your belly pregnant with breath-force while you inhale, then exhaling and releasing all hold of tension. Breathe deeply in and out through every part of your body. Breathe in and out of your feet so your toes wiggle and you continue breathing open every part of your body: your legs come alive, your vagina softens and moistens, your belly grows round and full with pleasure, your heart opens and feels, your arms and hands and fingers unfold as sprouts of your heart, your throat softens and your neck elongates, your face and lips and eyes and head all relax open. Breathe fully and relax your entire body open, from toe to head.

Then, as you breathe, feel outward from your heart. If you have a lover, then breathe him—his shape, his joy, his suffering—in and out of your heart. If you have children, then breathe them and all your friends in and out of your heart. Open your heart to feel your community and eventually the entire world, breathing all—people, animals, plants, ocean, forest, even the night’s darkness—in and out of your heart. Allow your heart to open and feel all, breathing all. Feel alive as all, breathing as the yearning that opens at all hearts.

Soften your body so your heart can actively breathe the openness of this moment. This moment exists as openness. Feel the actual aliveness of this moment, living within you, living as you, and living all around you. This moment is alive as love, as openness.

As if you were soaking in an ocean of love, relax open your throat, heart, belly, and genitals to receive love’s saturation. Lovingly melt your heart and body open as the fullness of this moment.

With practice, you learn to breathe and feel the love alive as the universe and the yearning at the heart of all beings. You learn to melt open and receive every moment’s love-fullness into your whole body. In response, your natural gesture is to offer yourself open as love, as a lover gives herself to her beloved. It is as if God were making love with you and you were offering all of yourself open to God.

Right now, are you receiving this moment’s divine ravishment down to your love-splayed toes? Are you offering your body as a sacred gift, surrendering your deep heart fully to be claimed by love’s earthly embodiment?

To attract a man of heart-depth and inspire his fullness, you must be offering yours.
For a woman to experience her deepest sexual bliss and openness, she must trust her lover’s masculine more than she trusts her own.
If you are like most women, you know that sex can be better than it usually is. Even if you have not yet experienced it, you intuit a deeper sexual potential, although you may not know exactly how to get there.

For most women (and men), there are sexual skills to learn and emotional knots to untie. But no matter how skillful or easeful you become, your partner plays a huge role in how fully you will be willing to open sexually, physically, emotionally, and spiritually together.

Deep, ravishing sex involves the loving play of masculine and feminine forces. The masculine is consciousness, and manifests through the body as presence and direction. The feminine is love-light, and manifests through the body as radiance and life force. A sexy masculine person is very present and confident in direction. A sexy feminine person is very radiant and alive with life force. Presence and radiance attract each other and can realize their oneness in the depth of sexual embrace.

In truth, masculine and feminine are aspects of the one conscious light that is called the divine by many names. For the fullest expression of sex, love is necessary but not sufficient. In order for sex to become sacred ravishment, conscious light plays as two: one partner embodies the masculine force of consciousness, presence, and purpose, while the other partner embodies the feminine force of love-light, radiance, and life force. These days, many men and women are afraid to sexually embody these divine expressions. Why?

Each person, every man and woman, has both masculine and feminine within them. Years ago, men were forced by social custom to always play the masculine role and women to play the feminine. This felt suppressive and limited. So, modern-day social custom has evolved to idealize balanced men and women: people who are each supposed to embody both masculine and feminine in a kind of psychological wholeness and relational independence.

Being whole unto oneself is a sign of psychological health. But being able to take the next step, to relinquish your boundaries in order to realize and express something larger than yourself, is a sign of spiritual maturity. To grow beyond mere self-sufficient wholeness, you and your lover can learn to open your boundaries and relinquish sexual autonomy for the sake of two-bodied divine play.

If you are sexually playing the feminine, you want to be swooned by your lover’s unwavering presence, taken beyond all resistance into the overwhelming fullness of love, ravished into bliss. If you are playing the masculine, you want to feel your lover’s trust and be attracted into your lover’s radiant surrender so that you may give yourself utterly in the ravishment of your lover. As your hearts trust, your boundaries are relinquished, and masculine and feminine open—sometimes savagely, sometimes sublimely—as one conscious light.

But if you cling to psychological wholeness, you won’t be willing to relinquish your boundaries of self-sufficiency. If you are like many modern women, you have worked hard to establish healthy boundaries and actualize your own direction and purpose; relinquishing your own navigation seems dangerous. Yet, if you have a more feminine sexual essence, this trust and sexual surrender is exactly what your deep heart desires. So, if you want to open in deep sexual play, you can practice trusting your lover to play the masculine while you play the feminine.

Even more difficult is the fact that, today, many women have a more highly developed masculine than their lovers do. You may not want to surrender to your lover’s masculine direction because you don’t trust it. And if your masculine direction is more evolved than your lover’s is, then you shouldn’t surrender to your lover’s masculine. You are better off navigating yourself, following your own sexual lead! But if you do so, don’t expect that your masculine lover will desire you for long.

Would you like to feel your masculine lover desiring and diving into your feminine radiance? Put another way, how attracted would you be if your lover preferred his own radiance to yours? Would it turn you on if he spent more time looking at himself in his dressing room mirror than at you, desiring himself and inspiring himself with his own beauty and shine?

Would that attract you sexually, if your masculine lover were “self-sufficiently radiant,” so that he enjoyed his own shine more than yours? This is how you feel to him, if you are “self-sufficiently directional,” trusting your own navigation more than his. Deep down, if you have a feminine sexual essence, then you want him to desire your radiance more than his own, and he wants you to desire his navigation more than your own. That is how the divine wants to make love through your bodies.

The truth is simple and stark: If you want to open sexually as the feminine divine, you won’t experience the deepest bliss of ravishment unless you are with a lover who can sexually navigate deeper than you, and you trust your lover’s masculine more than your own.

This is the bottom line. It doesn’t matter how many sexual skills you know, or how open you are emotionally. If you don’t trust your lover’s masculine force and direction more than your own, you won’t open completely. You won’t let down your boundaries and surrender in deep trust to be sexually ravished by the divine masculine. Your lover’s masculine consciousness, presence, and direction must be capable of bringing you to a deeper, more blissful and open love than you are capable of directing yourself, or you won’t trust your lover’s navigation. You won’t open completely, and sex will stop short of divine ravishment.

Once you have balanced your inner masculine and feminine, once you have developed as an autonomous, whole person, then you have achieved psychological integration. But to experience divine sexual bliss, there is another step to take. Without losing your capacity for wholeness in everyday life, you can learn to relinquish your boundaries during sex, giving yourself entirely to be taken by the divine masculine force. But if your own masculine is more developed then your lover’s, then you will stop short of utter surrender—and well you should! Why follow your lover’s sexual navigation if your own is deeper and more heart-true?

Therefore, if you want to experience the fullest divine play as the feminine sexual partner, then you must choose a lover worthy of your trust. If you are in a relationship, your lover can cultivate his whole-body depth of presence as you cultivate your capacity to receive his heart-true navigation. Specifically, your lover’s masculine consciousness, presence, and direction should be more developed than yours, more capable of taking you into utter sexual openness and spiritual surrender than you are capable of taking yourself.

If your lover can offer you this gift, then why not let go of your own sexual lead and surrender to ravishment as you have always yearned?

If you don’t trust your lover’s masculine direction more than yours, then the best you can hope for is love without deep ravishment. If love is all you want, then the play of masculine and feminine is irrelevant. You can enjoy love with your friends, children, and parents. You can love yourself. You can love the divine. You can love your intimate partner in many ways, cuddling, gardening, raising a family. Love is the very nature of your being, the very nature of all being. Love is the openness of every moment.

But if you find yourself yearning for a love that includes ravishing sexual play, if you want to be taken, swept off your feet, and overwhelmed by the unrelenting force of divine masculine presence, then you must be with a lover whose masculine direction you trust—and desire—more than your own. Only then will you allow yourself to surrender, receive, and bloom open wide as the moment’s full light of love.

Sacred Sexuality: The Art of Yogic Intimacy
Teachings Based on the Work of David Deida

Our capacity to remain open and full in any given moment is at the heart of deep intimacy, as is the dance of polarity between masculine and feminine energies.
Eli Buren - One of David Deida's primary teaching assistants - is offering this evening's presentation and practices to assist in bringing the work of David Deida out of the books and into the body "where it lives".

We will explore the art of yogic intimacy through awareness of our moment to moment choice: to open into love or not! Fundamentally it is a feeling sense of our selves, our relations, and that which surrounds and pervades all of it. We will combine breath work, movement, and partner exercises to elicit the whole being in grounded openness.

Eli currently leads men's groups, yoga sessions, and mixed workshops in the United States & Europe. He is gifted in guiding men and women into deeper bodily expressions of Spirit, where authentic presence and heart offerings live.
Combining aspects of the yoga of feeling awareness and Deida men's work into a strong container of bodily practice, integrity, and spirit.

Purposed towards exploration and moment to moment reflection of your relationship to life force in the BODY. And how that directly relates to your friendships, intimate relationship, and life's mission.

To register RSVP at deidawork@yahoo.com and feel free to forward this to any men that you feel would be served by this work. Come in loose comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

Note: You do not need to have any yoga experience to join us. This session is oriented towards depth and consciousness rather then ability to stretch your body!

I look forward to practicing with you men.

Best Regards,

From the outside he looks a lot like other feel-good newage hucksters, a slightly more sophisticated Dan Millman who borrows from folks such as Nikos Kazantzaki to repackage various Taoist breathing techniques under semi-bombastic hetero-normative vagaries about "ravishment" and so on.
Just One Wish

A woman was walking along the beach when she stumbled upon a Genie's lamp. She picked it up and rubbed it, and lo-and-behold a Genie
appeared. The amazed woman asked if she got three wishes.

The Genie said, "Nope. . . due to inflation, constant downsizing, low
wages in third-world countries, and fierce global competition, I can
only grant you one wish. So. . . what'll it be? "

The woman didn't hesitate. She said, "I want peace in the Middle East.
See this map? I want these countries to stop fighting with each other."

The Genie looked at the map and exclaimed, "Gadzooks, lady! These
countries have been at war for thousands of years. I'm good but not
THAT good! I don't think it can be done. Make another wish. "

The woman thought for a minute and said, "Well, I've never been able
to find the right man. You know, one that's considerate and fun, likes
to cook and helps with the housecleaning, is good in bed and gets
along with my family, doesn't watch sports all the time, and is
faithful. That's what I wish for. . a good mate."

The Genie let out a long sigh and said, "Let me see that fuckin' map!"

Alternate version (for men)

A man was walking along a California beach and stumbled across an old
lamp. He picked it up, rubbed it and out popped a genie. The genie
said "OK, OK. You released me from the lamp, blah blah blah. This is
the fourth time this month and I'm getting a little sick of these
wishes so you can forget about three. You only get one wish!"

The man sat and thought about it for a while and said, "I've always
wanted to go to Hawaii but I'm scared to fly and I get very seasick.
Could you build me a bridge to Hawaii so I can drive my Vette over
there to visit?"

The genie laughed and said, "That's impossible. Think of the logistics
of that! How would the supports ever reach the bottom of the Pacific?
Think of how much concrete...how much steel! And the maintenance Of
that bridge! No - think of another wish."

The man said OK and tried to think of a really good wish. Finally, he
said, "I've been married and divorced four times. My wives always said
that I don't care and that I'm insensitive. So, I wish that I could
understand women ... know how they feel inside and what they're
thinking when they give me the silent treatment ... know why they're
crying, know what they really want when they say nothing ... know how
to make them truly happy ... I really want to understand women and how they think!"

The genie said, "You want that bridge with two lanes or four?"

Empathy for each others' experience can connect us on many different planes. Empathy can help us see our interconnectedness and relegate the differences to inconsequential derivitives of our biological legacy and social conditioning.
I have worked with men and women for over 25 years (now as a psychotherapist) and have developed a workshop for women to help them understand how and why men are generally different from them.
So many times in my psychotherapy practice both men and women have asked "Why does s/he think/act/feel that way?" It makes it much easier to find acceptance through understanding than to defend against what appears to be insensitive/rude/uncaring/manipulative behavior.

My name is Andrew Schwartz and I just noticed this Tribe -- so, hello!

I discovered David Deida's work just a few months ago, and I've found it remarkably insightful and helpful, particularly in terms of my relationships with men and with the woman in my life.

And since I'm a workshop leader (see my Tribe profile for more details), I decided to start a men's group here in LA, with a friend, to both explore and cultivate experientially masculine power.

You can read more about what we're planning on this page: http://www.interpersonalmeditation.com/masculinepower.html

And if you have any interested in possibly attending the first meeting of this group, please contact me. Or, if you know any men in LA who might be interested, please pass the link along to them!

Best wishes to all,

devadasi means a female servant of god.
trained in dance, literature, music and the playing of musical intruments, Devadasis were dedicated to temples for entertaining the Lord.
They were highly respected for having the unique privilege of being in close proximity to the Lord and known as celestial singers and attendants to the Lord.
Owing to their own exalted status and role in society, Devadasis became a community. Members from most castes and communities, including orphans could become apart of the Devadasi community. Dance as an art form was performed and celebrated. The Agamas, sacred texts that established rules for worship in temples, ask for female dancers to serve in temples, especially those dedicated to Shiva.
In the 9th to 12th century AD the Devadasi system was at its height. Devadasis were dedicated to the massive temples built during this time around which their lives revolved, cleaning the temples, dressing the deities singing devotional songs and perfomring sacred acts of worship. The art of dance was meant for entertaining the Gods and took place in front of the image of the Lord. The Devadasis were often large-hearted and charitable and saved people, even their own Kings, from humiliation, donating land and giving away gold ornaments as acts of worship. The generosity of the Devadasis was matched by that of their patrons - kings and lords who endowed temples handsomely. Although much of the history surrounding the Devadasis seems to be maligned and full of misconceptions, we choose to honor and celebrate these sacred practices in our lives as worshippers of the Lord through song, dance, literature and by keeping the sacred flame of the Lord's temples burning

Hi everyone. This is the first time I've posted here but was just thinking that Deida and/ or you all might have some insight into this question. I also saw that there's been a thread on this topic already, but maybe we can open the discussion again.

I am dating a man who wants to be in an open relationship. He doesn't want to feel like he is forbidden to love anyone, and he wants to be free to respond to stimulus, play and love as they come to him. I understand those feelings, and I love him in his freedom and aliveness and wouldn't want to restrict that.

As it turns out, though, as much as I wanted to do that, it pains me greatly to know that he is physically and emotionally connecting to other women. I love him and feel vulnerable with him, and feel like I can't open up to him and trust him if I know that he could just go and love someone else at any moment.

I haven't quite gotten to the bottom of these feelings, so they're hard to articulate, but I know it has something to do with insecurity, and my desire to feel his full-hearted commitment to loving me before I can open wide to him. He says that he has a full-hearted commitment to loving me, but that it doesn't preclude him from loving other people, but something in me just needs to feel a measure of safety/ security in order to trust. I need to have some degree of assurance that he is there for me and that he's not going to love some other woman more - right now, it feels like that could happen at any moment.

Yes, I know, nothing is safe or secure... and love is infinitely abundant, and perhaps this need for monogamy comes from a belief in scarcity... but it's still my feeling, no matter how much I believe in the theory of openness. I still spent 24 hours crying after he hooked up with his ex-girlfriend! And now I feel like my quest is to try to understand if this is something I want to move towards, or what the lesson is in this.

As I am writing I am wishing I could embrace this kind of trust and openness that he envisions... but a friend of mine (who is in a long-term committed monogamous relationship) said, why do you need to have multiple partners to feel freedom in love? And I think I agree with that - why can't it be freedom for us to explore the contours and possibilities of love, just the two of us?

Is monogamy just a social construct or is it something more fundamental? Is it fundamental to women, on some biological level in that we are looking for secure mates to make families with, or do men have primal urges towards monogamy also?

Your thoughts are welcome...
thanks all
Love
Caitlin
i've had a couple interesting experiences lately having to do with people asking me to join tribes or friend's lists.

sometimes it's a tribe about a topic i just have no interest in spending my time on. sometimes a request to be added as a friend. my responses range from a simple 'no, thank you' to asking more about the person or topic involved. i notice i seem to have good intuition, when i don't feel a quick 'yes' in myself, that i'm picking up energy or attitude that's somehow inharmonious.....

my sense is that interacting with people online is good practice in feeling these energies. but i wonder what it is we're reading, and how my own kinks may be involved in being attracted and repelled by certain dynamics. how 'clean' am i in offering presence instead of exchanging hooks?
my love to everyone who is supporting me in the process of embracing my feminine essence through my writing and questioning)

Please don't separate yourself from me. My feminine essence blossoms in your love and support. The flower that is my heart drinks nectar of your love, and grows stronger from the light that is your faith.

Please don't push me away, my feminine core is fragile and needs your encouraging words and open embrace. It needs to feel appreciated to overcome fear and shyness. It needs to be nurtured and held. When you are distant it snaps away, and I am back to being the assertive, cold, efficient woman that doesn't know how to love you.

Please don't close yourself off from me. My feminine spirit yearns to flow like a gentle breeze, to glide over your scars and takes with it your anger and pain. My feminine soul understands your secret fears, it offers to kiss your palm to calm the tidal waves in your heart. My feminine essence wants to be wild, it yearns to give itself up to you and blossom in the rich dark forest of your secret longings.

I want to be mother earth for you, to hold your pain and be deeply nurturing of your wounds. I want to be ocean tides for you, to surprise and excite you with my vibrant life and energy. I want to be snowy mountains for you, supporting you gently when you fall. I want to be tropic paradise for you, relaxing and open, rejuvenating your body and soul.

I want to be a singing siren for you, tempting you with my words of admiration and adoration.
I want to be a tender-hearted child for you, sharing my innocence and trust.
I want to be a woman warrior for you, courageous in my pursue of growth and self improvement.

i joined back this motley crew of David Deida characters (grammar was never my strength). hi.

um, I wanted to say that i have been listening to Deida on MP3 again and am finding him re-refreshing. I absorbed so much of his goodness several years ago and got to a point where I felt like I wanted a different angle than the one he offers. but now i am back to practicing his techniques in my daily life.

i think that i took a lot of what i had received from him for granted, the practices that were woven into my being. and also i think i developed a lot of "negative feminine" along with the positive feminine.

i believe balance is an active not static principle, and that to achieve balance requires making adjustments, actively and flexibly, so i am balancing myself out again, integrating the feminine that i practised very hard to realize with the masculine that came relatively easily to me before.

guess i just wanted to acknowledge what a positive impact Deida's work has had on me in the past, and now, again in the current.

ENLIGHTENMENT IS IRRITATINGLY POSSIBLE

Students might find sanity too spacious, too irritating. We would prefer a little claustrophobic insanity, snug and comforting insanity. Getting into that is like crawling back into a marsupial's pouch. That's the usual tendency, because acknowledging precision and sanity is too crispy, too cool, too cold. It's too early to wake up; we'd rather go back to bed. Going back to bed is relating to the mind's deceptions, which in fact we prefer. We like to get a little bit confused and set up our homes in that. We don't prefer sanity or enlightenment in fact. That seems to be the problem rather than that we don't have it or can't get it. If we really prefer basic sanity or enlightenment, it's irritatingly possible to get into it.
LOL!

and:

"Whatever you do in your life can become
an artistic expression of the love that you
are. And that changes the feel of
everything you do, including the way you
express your anger, your stubbed toe, your
hunger - there's always a sort of humorous
part of it because everything is already
love, even though you might be hurting."

--From "Living the 3rd Stage: The 3 Stages of Life", an MP3 CD by David Deida

---
i woke up this morning absolutely FULL with possibility. it's a stance i'm learning how to stand in, learning to ride the waves without my knees buckling altogether, a loose sort of posture where my limbs, guts and head have to allow their light tether to my heart to be the gravity they listen to. which is an omni-directional gravity in a functional sense. :-)

tuning in turns out to be one of those things best done lightly.

even listening, done too hard, takes on the prickly metallic aftertaste of grasping, and it's grasping that closes our ears to the heart's steady music. (gee, where have i heard this before?* LOL!) then the tether disappears, and i'm flailing instead of surfing.

well, damn! :-)))

*(my teacher always said, "you must listen with your whole body, your whole being." i never really heard that before!)

the BIG thing i tasted at this day's dawning is that, even tho 'fear vs love' is basically a valid dualistic "fact", the paradox is that it's ok, even necessary, to listen to fear. lightly, of course! in fact, if i don't relax to embrace it, by which i mean BEFRIEND it like a long-lost kin, i'm gonna spend a lot more time shadow-boxing - and wearing myself out. cuz ultimately, fear is just another repository of energy, and integrating it brings its own essential juice, that unqualifiable stuff we use to create with.

what am i creating? what's right in front of me? my fear befriended allows the rerouting of darker, less spacious, more uptight habits to bloom more beauty, more compassion, more wide-openness....which invites the fundamental waves of g*d to wash over and pass thru (and uplift and tickle just a little on the way out.)

life digs an open channel. (in both senses of the word 'dig') wee-heee!

Mmmmmm: at core, there's just light being bent into creation (she said as if she took the first-class tour.) :-)

i wanna make of me a prism, not a :-p black hole! and what's the sure-fire way to create that SPACE?

"i don't know" !!!!!!!!
Consequently, if someone were to ask, "What is the true meaning of the Way of the Samurai?" the person who would be able to answer promptly is rare. This is because it has not been established in one's mind beforehand. From this, one's unmindfulness of the Way can be known.

From Deida's website.

Not really any point to posting this, and I won't close up and stop talking to you if you don't read the whole thing. But Good Lord we've got to do something (i.e. I just want to post something to this tribe today, and this seems basically on topic).

Don't Wait for Perfection

You can be wide open and diseased at the same time.

No matter how sick you are in body or mind, you can still open. Disease may ravage your body and drugs may cloud your mind, and you can still open. Deep openness can encompass all states of body and mind.

Physical and psychological disorders need not obscure your openness, and your openness may not affect your pathologies. If you inherited nearsightedness from your parents, then spiritual openness probably won't change your need to wear glasses. If your mind has adapted to habits of panic instilled by years of childhood abuse, then spiritual openness probably won't eliminate your cringe at the sight of your lover's genitals.

However, you can be a myopic neurotic and still open with the freedom of unbound love. You may squint and become nauseated as your lover disrobes, but the humor of your response can avail. Like a muscular tic or a snotty nose, your emotional responses are natural effects of your history--perhaps uncomfortable, running their course largely beyond your immediate control. Nevertheless, you can offer your love, laughter, and openness even as you sniffle, panic, or shriek.

Right now, unique as you are in body and mind, you can practice opening fully.

Even as you open, laugh, and love, the patterns of your body and mind have their own momentum. Heart disease, cancer, and even alcoholism have continued in the disposition of many deeply open men and women. Every kind of sexual style and twist can be found in the biographies of saints and spiritual teachers. Your openness can be real and profound, and still your bodymind ripples on, patterning itself according to past influence and present habit.

If your mother drank too much alcohol or was in a state of constant emotional stress during her pregnancy, then your nervous system is somewhat shaped by the chemicals that coursed through your embryonic growth, and there isn't much you can do about that now. As a consequence of your mother's actions, your body may be small, your mental acuity may be weak, and your emotional flow may be unstable. These are simply some of the patterns that you may feel and learn to open as, moment by moment.

If your father sexually molested you, then now as an adult you may react to your lover's advances with numbness. Your posture may be hunched and your pelvis locked. The patterning of your bodymind is what it is. You can change it to some degree, but you can always open as it is, even now. Open now, offering your heart's gift, and also do your best to live rightly through the present patterns of your past history.

Have you ever done something you wished you had done differently? If so, you can learn from your mistakes and try to do better next time. If the patterns of your bodymind cause undue suffering, in your life or in the lives of others, you can work to transform these patterns, heal them as much as possible, and grow more fully into a balanced, integrated, and healthy person.

But this growth is not the same as spiritual openness and depth. A balanced, healthy individual may serve to create positive changes in the world and yet be unwilling to open and feel fully. On the other hand, someone may be wide open and feeling all, yet appear to be a raving lunatic, lustful, and drug-addicted. Such a person may, in fact, be crazy, lustful, and drug-addicted--and yet be open so deeply their heart feels more than you can know and their love extends to you without bounds.

No matter how fully you open and live as love, your character is only slightly changeable. Your pre-birth influences are ingrained in your nervous system like rings in a tree. Childhood stresses still waltz in the chemistry of your brain and emotions. Even the evolutionary travails of your furry mammalian ancestors contribute to your so-called "spontaneous" desires for sex, food, and comfort.

You are birthed by, grown within, and taken apart by an immense and mysterious web of influence. The efforts you make to be healthy and helpful can be nullified by a falling rock caused by a sudden earth tremor or by a heart failure predisposed by the genetics of your father's mother's father. You may truly want to serve your 16-year-old daughter's friend, and yet you can't seem to shake the sexual desire you feel, or the guilt.

Integrity is well worth a lifetime of cultivation. Serving others is really the only way to live your heart's truth. But you are not cured thereby.

Your body may remain bent and your mind may remain twisted. Still, love can extend through your distortions, uniquely twisted yet unbound. Great gifts of openness, love, and awakening can be given--have been given--through arthritic fingers and alcohol-drenched brain cells.

Even as lust, greed, and anger continue to arise in your emotional patterns formed by years of mammalian struggle, parental abuse, and self-torture, you can practice opening without bounds. You can practice opening and giving your deepest gifts in every present moment, however awry your body and mind--and the world--remain.

Feel whatever love you can in this moment, however small. Even if you are woozily soused or ravenous with lust, find a kernel of openness deep in your heart. Feel the place in you that wants to give love and be fully received in love, no matter how messed up you are. Locate your desire for love, for openness, for freedom, even if it is tiny. In the midst of your drunken stupor or wild ire, reconnect with this speck of openness.

Breathe in and out of this tiny gist of love, while you open your senses and feel the people and place around you. Even if you can only open a little bit to breathe through your heart and feel the people and world around you, this is a little bit more open than staying closed.

Practice opening a tiny amount while your body and mind reel on, numb, confused, spinning. Breathe love in and out of the feeling-space of your heart. Breathe the force of love deep down into your abdomen, opening the closures in your gut by inhaling full and filling your belly round. Feel the heart of those around you, look into their eyes, open your senses to all the world's display, and offer your full-bellied love through your twists by degrees, in every moment you can remember to practice opening.

As slurred as your speaking may be, offer words of love. Through your shaking hands, offer openness through your service. Feel the hearts of those around you as they open or close in response to your gifts. As dim as your awareness may be fuddled, practice to feel the hearts around you and act to open them. Don't wait for perfection--or even to get straight--to offer your deepest love, full-bellied and open hearted.

Offer your gifts right now with the deepest integrity you can through whatever kinks may remain, always feeling and breathing the hearts of others as you act. Do your best to heal yourself and others, remembering that habits and history may budge very little. Nevertheless, this present moment comes and goes open, just as it is.

I've spent the majority of my adult life in monogomous long-term relationships. These days I'm doing a lot more dating, and I've been advised by some of my male friends (you know who you are) to make a point of dating more than one woman at a time.

I would like to hear opinions about the benefits and/or drawbacks of dating multiple women. Any thoughts?

"Warriorship is a continual journey. To be a warrior is to learn to be genuine in every moment of your life."
- Chogyam Trungpa

Life presents us with a host of obstacles ranging from the extreme to the mundane. We are faced with limitations, both those imposed on us by the world and those we impose on ourselves through doubt and not knowing. The path through this world that leads to our higher selves is won through the three traditional virtues of a bodhisattva: strength, wisdom, and compassion.

Buddhist writings use the image of demons as a metaphor for our misconceptions, particularly the misconceptions that bind us to a narrow and limiting sense of our own capacity to love and to know. The sacred path of the warrior is to cut through these demons and leave none standing, till we are free in the limitless clearing unleashed by the unreserved luminosity of our own hearts and minds.

I hope that this tribe can be a meeting ground for men who are fighting this battle, who do war with the jailer who would confine us as children, selfish and small. Let us unleash our hearts.

In the 16th century the Fifth Dalai Lama wrote:

What must be done?
Tthe enemy of living for this life must die.

Who will do it?
You must pretend that you are warrior enough to be the one.

Now, then?
Surely the time has come. Go forth now and defeat them.
