I recently saw some of Deida's material on a ning social network site and I am looking for more information.
Has anyone had any experience attending workshops or intensives here?

Re: Deida Material
Sat, January 26, 2008 - 9:04 PMI attended a 4-day intensive several years ago, and was generally impressed with the clarity and commitment I found, not only with Deida and his facilitators, but with the participants. That said, I'm not comfortable with any system that gets too dogmatic, and I sensed a tendency to insist on certain techniques and practices which I personally found somewhat over-the-top. My partner at the time had an even worse time of it; she felt some of the womens-only exercises were downright grueling. I think the books are helpful in themselves, giving couples interesting insights into relationship dynamics. Taking it further probably just depends on how much structure you feel you need.

Mon, January 28, 2008 - 12:59 AMthanks whether,
i agree - they can take it too far, deida and his assistants. it's very dogmatic.
it's very cult like, but the work originally came from adi da so it's not even original -

Mon, January 28, 2008 - 9:24 AMHmmm....I wouldn't fault him for derivative work, since virtually every idea humans have derives from millennia of collaboration....
But yes, beware dogmatists. I find Deida's work quite lively when it's in the moment.....build a structure to hang life on and you're bound to end up with rigid pieces. -

Hmm, guess I'll be sticking with the books, then! I just bought _The Way of the Superior Man_ for two of my best male friends. And I want to return to _Finding God Through Sex_ sometime soon. -

Mon, January 28, 2008 - 6:03 PMIf that's right for you....I'd say everyone is different and has different needs. For some, I've no doubt Deida's techniques are just the thing. But I also think you can fly without them.
